■いわずとしれたナムコの看板ビデオゲーム「パックマン」の生誕30周年を記念するパックマン30周年プロジェクトの一環として開催されるAll about パックマン的な博覧イベント「PAC-MAN展」のインスタレーションのひとつとして、「顕微鏡パックマン Microscopic PAC-MAN」という作品を制作しました。

その名の通り、モーレツに小さいディスプレイで表示されたオリジナルパックマンを、顕微鏡で10倍〜くらいに拡大して覗きながらプレイすることができる、という作品です。ポケットプロジェクタを加工して1cm角くらいの液晶にVGAでゲーム画面を表示してるので、1439 PPIくらい？（計算まちがってなければ）の映像でしょうか。world smallest pacmanに解像度では勝ってるな。
企画は単純だったのですが制作は試行錯誤と展示プランの二転三転をへてようやく形になりました。XRGB-3のdot by dot mode2（ゲーム映像を等倍表示できる機能）が9月にリリースされると聞いたときには神のおぼしめしかと思ったんですが、XGBは基板のビデオ映像は内部的にVGAまでは拡大してフレームを持っているらしく（憶測）、パックマンのオリジナル解像度といわれる224×288にはできませんできず残念。そこまでいけるとよかったんですが。
ゲームとしては普通にプレイできるので、ズームしたりフォーカスを外してみたりしながら遊んでみてください。あと他の展示もおそらく二度と観られない実動品やら資料やらがたくさんあるのでかなりおすすめなイベントなってますよ。ぜひぜひ遊びに来られるととよいと思います。
